Does that Eric Hoffer quote represent your opinion on this mater? I don't think there has ever been the "gentle cynic." One might say that the idea of the gentle cynic is as much an idealized concept as that of an almighty god. Everyone's an idealist, it's just that we have differing ideals. Everyone is also a fundamentalist for that matter.
This is true, except for the apathetic, who just don't care. Does this quote represent my opinion, perhaps it does, but it does not represent my personal belief in God, almighty or not. I actually hope there is a God and that one day I can meet him. And that he has a sense of humor because I have some good jokes to tell him.
